A 300-kilogram super-size sapphire crystal was in the spotlight during a press conference held in Hohhot on June 22.
The creation of the large crystal marked a breakthrough for China’s Kyropoulos growing method.
The crystal was self-developed by Inner Mongolia Jinhuan Electronic Materials Company, with features including a high level of pellucidness, no flaws, and no crystal boundaries.
It can be utilized to produce an LED 4-inch crystal bar measuring nearly 3,400 millimeters, according to the company.
Currently, over 70 percent of sapphire crystal has been utilized to substrate epitaxial wafers. And nearly 90 percent of LED production uses sapphire crystal as under-layers.
The need for sapphire crystal in phone panels, cameras, and smart watches has risen due to its hardiness, wear resistance, light permeability, and its resistance to wind erosion.
